MONTHLY FOIBLES ...wherein we discuss what we did this month…

Moss: I spent several hours one morning reorganizing my external drives on my Studio machine. When I was done, all my ISOs and my Timeshift directory were all on sdc and everything else - documents, music, pictures, etc. - was on sdb. I refer to these drives as SLOPOKRMRZ and SPDYGNZLZ. MONTHLY FOIBLES ...wherein we discuss what we did this month…

Moss:

I’ve had issues getting work, or having to take time off. My glasses broke and I had to get a new exam and ordered new glasses. I got my flu shot and my new covid shot. The covid shot made me pretty sick with lots of lower abdominal pain for a few days, but I got better. I’ve been pulling back from doing a lot of things I’d like to do, including missing a couple of mintCast episodes. I hope I’m back in better shape now. More........

MONTHLY FOIBLES ...wherein we discuss what we did this month…

Moss: My wife finally unburied her new Lenovo T590 ThinkPad, and I updated and upgraded it to Linux Mint 21.2. I even managed to get its power cord plugged in so she can start using it instead of the aging System76 Kudu3. Except that, so far, she continues to use the Kudu. We also spent a weekend at my friend Larry Kirby’s house in South Carolina singing my lungs out with 3 other performers and a room of listeners and lots of food. We also had some car trouble coming back from there, which cost a lot of money to fix. And I’m back to teaching. ...More

MONTHLY FOIBLES ...wherein we discuss what we did this month…

Moss:

I’ve been fiddling with a new scooter, something they are always out of when you go to Voldemart so I bought my own. I also got a new “smart guitar”, an Enya Music NEXG, and am getting to know it. I bought a powered digital TV antenna, and so far only have 3 stations I can get - one Christian station, a Christian station in Spanish, and Lifetime. I had a lot of paperwork to get turned in for various programs, and managed to get it all done, although I didn’t get one of them done soon enough and am still waiting to hear back. MONTHLY FOIBLES  ...wherein we discuss what we did this month…

Moss:

It has been an off month for me. After working 7 days in May, my work year got over. I’ve been just trying to stay alive, had a few minor health issues. All the Linuxing I’ve done, other than my podcasts, will have to wait until the Updates section. Anyone wanting to check out the result of my last concert can check my Bandcamp Page; the songs are collected under the album, “Third Time’s the Charm”, referring to it being my 3rd time at this particular online festival. ........More

MONTHLY FOIBLES  ...wherein we discuss what we did this month…

Moss: I managed to get all kinds of days of work this past month, my best month this school year. Of course, that is to be followed by 2 months of nothing, as the school term is over. I’ve been keeping quite busy between that and all my podcasts. I also tried using EasyOS. It was easy… but getting applications which were not already provided turned out to be quite difficult. I also mailed two computers and a dock to Dale. Also, Bill Houser took pity on me over my troubles with the EBXYA sound box and bought me a Focusrite Scarlett Solo, which I’m using now.

Welcome to Distrohopper’s Digest, Episode 042, recorded on the 25th of April, 2023. For this episode, I will be reviewing Elementary OS 7, Dale has Zinc 22.04.2 and Eric will review Fedora 37. We have a new team member, Eric Adams. Say hello, Eric, and tell us a bit about yourself.

Eric: [I’ll talk a little bit about my work history and history with using Linux, both server for work projects and desktop for mostly home use. I discussed this with Moss already. I’ll also briefly mention my experience on other podcasts and my YouTube channel.]

MONTHLY FOIBLES ...wherein we discuss what we did this month…

Moss: I’ve had lots of fun with hardware lately. I got a keyboard cleaning brush and restored my Fellowes Microban keyboard. I have found my M700 Tiny i3 machine used for my TV streaming has a loose interior connection on the DisplayPort, and ordered a new i5 M700 Tiny as a temporary fix. I’m sending the old i3 machine to Joe of mintCast for repair, as neither my eyesight nor my hands are up to soldering. The support was laughably not professional, but they did replace my box and I’m using the new one now. There is a minor short in the headphone jack, but nothing important.....More

MONTHLY FOIBLES

...wherein we discuss what we did this month…

Moss: As mentioned last month, my wife and I got new Moto G Stylus 5G (2022) phones. It was interesting getting them set up, as our Pixel 3a XL phones were running CalyxOS and not in the Google ecosystem, so we could not simply move our files. We did, however, manage to get them working with all our apps, photos, etc. saved and transferred. They were quite glitchy the first week or two, although they seem to have settled down a lot since. I am still using my Pixel for viewing and listening, as the sound quality is considerably better. ....More

MONTHLY FOIBLES    ...wherein we discuss what we did this month…

Moss: More issues with my T540p, I had to completely reinstall Linux Mint and Bodhi. Mint would not update the kernel, it was missing files and I could not replace them, with lots of help from Dale. When I installed Mint, it used UEFI, so I had to reinstall Bodhi to get Grub back. I really needed to use Rescuezilla to have a complete version of Bodhi as I use it, but no, it took me 4 hours to get things back to the way I like them. It was a Good Experience. For the foreseeable future, I will only have my current testing distro on that machine..........More

MONTHLY FOIBLES ...wherein we discuss what we did this month…

Moss: I went to a convention in Illinois where I got to sing a lot and sold more than a few CDs. I also had a birthday. And then I had my T540p decide that sda was sdb and vice versa. After coming up with ideas, it seemed I might have to reinstall everything....More
